Songs of Thar: Melody of Naturals
Songs of Thar is product of passion for fragrances, from our very own perfumer Anas Sabrani and man behind the rising house of Raza Perfumes, Ovais Saleem. I have been calling it “game changer” for our community to whoever listens to me because i have firm belief on this fact. No one attempted to compose a fragrance based on almost all naturals before. Creating such perfume is not an easy feat to achieve, that i have witnessed during its development stage.
Songs of Thar, an aptly named fragrances, is a melody of desert air. It is a scent of a Bedouin, looking for solace. It is niche without being unwearable as it resides on a fine line between a crowd-pleaser and work of art. The opening blast of this dark colored juice comprising of Saffron and Rose, is so strong that might make noses wrinkle. This might lead you to make a conclusion that it is a typical middle eastern fragrance but it is the heart of the fragrance which acts as a savior as patchouli in combination with a Tobacco note creates a very dry and dusty nuance reminiscent of a desert. Dry down is where most people will get compliments, as it ends on note of musky tone with some rose on background.
Longevity on this one is excellent, lasting on skin for about 7-8 hours easily where i could detect it on my clothes even after 12 hours of initial spray. Projection on the other hand is quite moderate which might be due to high concentration of oil. On the versatility front, this would fail for many people as pulling such a fragrance specially in work place is very difficult task so this can be a perfect formal or a religious gathering scent. Season wise, due to its profile, winters or perhaps cooler summer nights seem more appropriate.
This is not a masterpiece by any means because for that we need more compositions from sabrani to make a basis of comparison. On its own right, it is a near perfect fragrance. Lack of projection and perhaps a not too complicated scent profile might take away some points but i personally love it and am proud owner of bottle no. 1. Songs of Thar is a game changer as it has set new standards for other local houses to meet. So would i recommend it to anyone? Well it is out of stock and will never be produced again as far as i know but if it were readily available I would not recommend it to those who are into mass pleasing perfumes but to those who are serious niche lovers.

Songs of Thar! (An Independence Day Limited Edition)
The barren and rugged grandeur of a desert can only be fully appreciated if you get a chance to become part of it.
The naked harshness hides a tremendous amount of color and beauty and harbors life in the most savage circumstances.
Songs of Thar is one such unique charmer, a collaborative effort between perfumer Anas Sabrani and Ovais Saleem of Raza Perfumes. It’s literally DESERT IN A BOTTLE. I smelled it and fell in love with it instantly. Highly impressed with the originality and creativity of these guys. What a brilliant artsy creation!
When I put my nose on it for the first time, it reminded me of the song Desert Rose by Sting and the numerous spectacular sunsets and sunrises I’ve had a chance to witness in the desolated deserts across the globe.
This opens with a gorgeous, authentic and rich saffron-laden rose. Trailing behind is patchouli, earthy, dark and mysterious, along with tobacco absolute that tangos with the myrrh adding the ash-smokey dry, woody and spicy background. This entire orchestra of notes leave you spellbound with the presence of oakmoss and musky rose in the drydown.
Strong projecting and long-lasting, it does not get any more niche than this. Leaves a scent trail to die for.
This perfectly depicts the ambiances of the Thar Desert. Dry, dusty, barren yet full of life. Like a rose in the desert.
This is so original and unique and there’s nothing like this in the market both locally or internationally, that’s the best part. And the worst part is that it is so exclusive and so limited that once I’m done with my 30mls, I will never be able to smell it again.
These poetic words below from Raza Perfumes sum it all up.
Only you my love
Can tame this power of red roses. With one spray, my soul is ablaze with Safforn and Tobacco.
In an instant, I am a grain in your hand. My fire becomes water In the desert sand.

Fragrances are greatest source of getting nostalgic. I remember my Dadi use to open her “Pandan” for preparing pan using most raw and finest tobacco available that time. She usually add kashmiri saffron and dried chopped rose patels in her pan. This creation of Ovais Saleem brings me to my childhood with lots of lots of moments to cherish.
Its dusk time now here in Karachi and I am sniffing Songs of thar on my wrist and smiling while remembering moments with my DADI.
Thank you Ovais for bringing such nostalgic joy to my life.

SONGS OF THAR
————— ————–
I missed the opportunity to avail the bottle in the first place but some how Ovais managed and made me the proud owner of Bottle # 19 /30.
Let me be very honest here ,this might be the founding stone for the local niche perfumery here. This stuff is no joke , i gave it multiple wearing in order reach a definite conclusion and its simply ?.
Though notes or ingredients sound very familiar to niche and indie perfume wearers but some how they have achieved a very different aspect of rose based fragrance here. Rose is not jammy and airy at all, its dry like dried crushed rose petals found in the dusty hidden books .
Thanks to oakmoss, opening evokes the feeling of some oasis from where horizon seems like mirage ,but definitely there is more to the play. Patchouli as earthy and muddy as it sounds is lingering in there, Saffron dominates the play for a while and takes the whole stage to the sun barren sand of “Thar “where harmony is at its peak, be it between people or notes of this particular fragrance . Tobacco is very graceful and quiet here, giving a kick of bitterness to the whole scenario but in a way that is not heavy on hearts like and old folk sitting in the house and observing every move.
It would be a great companion in winters with the hope and wish that duo with come up with something more mesmerizing and joyful.

Songs of Thar
There are two main players in this concoction, Tobacco and Patchouli. We will come back to it later. first discuss the opening which doesn’t last atleast on my skin for a long time. Opening is composed of Saffron and Rose which to some noses smells like Supari. Yes it smells like some high end Supari but just for one to two mins then I start getting greenish tobacco and from here you are going to enter a desert where you will crave for water. Dustiness of Patchouli will make you feel thirsty. Now Tobacco has dried up and tobacco used here brings up memories. It’s not like tobacco used in Pure Havane (light smoot) or used in Rassasi Shurah (Cigrate like). Tobacco here will remind you of a box in which your grandfather or people who smoke Hukkah keep their Tobacco and Gur. The dry down actually captures the smell of tobacco, REAL TOBACCO.
Longevity is Beast, it will last ages on clothes and projects for 2-3 hours heavily. It will get you noticed surely.

Song of Thar. This is awesome creation from GAIA Parfums. On dry down, it totally gives you feeling like “Aap Thar k sehra main kharay huay hoon, baarish ki boondain gir rahi hoon, halki taaza thandi hawa chal rahi ho aur geeli matti ki aik khaas khushboo aa rahi ho”.
Very well done

This is among my top 5 scents acquired this year, great skilled work and efforts behind this scent are highly appreciable.
Truly an exquisite blend with Natural ingredients, as I am a fanatic of Tobacco, and Patchouli is my favorite ingredient too, this is a full-on treat for me. Since Natural ingredients were used, the scent could be a bit challenging in the first 5 to 10 minutes for most of the people around. Just after spraying, the Tobacco Absolute, Patchouli, and Rose all start fighting to get on top. The middle accords depict the traditional oriental approach i.e., Rose, Patchouli, and saffron. The patchouli is the strongest note followed by Rose and Tobacco.
I tried to grab a couple of backup bottles but as it was a limited edition blended with the limitation of Natural difficult to source materials all bottles were already been sold.
Anas Sabrani Ovais Saleem waiting for such more creations bhaiyo.

A beautiful blend of Rose & Saffron, followed by Patchouli & Tobacco, and ends at rose & musk notes.
What a very own beautiful creation by Anas Sabrani
Thanx Ovais bhai for the unique beauty.

Songs of Thar.
So the note breakdown is the type that normally doesn’t appeal to my aesthetic, so I am treating this primarily as an intellectual exercise.
The opening smells of saffron. This is the smell of Rasily Supari to my nose. At $60 for 100 ml this is not going to contain a real tincture of saffron, but the opening is sweet and pleasant.
As the fragrance dries down, I get a bit of a dusty impression that kinds of reminds of LDDM Lite kind of vibe (this is probably coming from the Patchouli). The mid also gives me some more rose-and saffron vibes (you know, a typical Eastern attar backbone), and just a tiny little bit of smoke.
Dry down on my nose is Myrrh and Oakmoss. It’s a skin scent to me, and a really nice one. This is a very good example of high level Oriental perfumery. I have never been to Thar, but it does have a bit of dryness of the desert to it. It’s not Tauer-esque in its artistry; it is a lot more approachable and likeable.
Honestly, this is the best blended Pakistani fragrance so far in my short experience with local fragrance houses (but I have effectively zero exposure to the two biggest ones so far). If this is really a 30 bottle limited edition, I am lucky to bag one of those bottles
